Accessibility at the Library
Accessible Materials and Services
The Mississauga Library System offers many materials and services in accessible formats. We encourage residents to speak directly with library staff to access these materials and to learn more.


Accessible Equipment

Accessibility enhanced public computers
Include a Large Print keyboard and ZoomText Magnifier / Reader. Zoomtext enlarges, enhances and reads aloud everything on the computer screen.

Daisy Players (Victor Reader Stratus)
Specialized player that works with Daisy discs, a browsing collection of audiobooks. The players can be borrowed by customers who have a visual, physical or print disability. For more information contact Central Library, Readers’ Den department staff at 905-615-3500 ext. 3544

Large Print Books
Available in Fiction and Non-fiction collections with new titles continually added.

Closed Captioned DVDs
Closed captioned films include subtitles that are available on a large percentage of the DVD collection.

Descriptive Videos
Descriptive videos (DVDs) provides special narration that describes the action, characters, costumes, locations and sets to a viewer with visual disabilities without interfering with the movie's dialogue or sound effects.

  1. Available in Library Catalogue – search for Video recordings for people with visual disabilities. Or check specific record for the subject heading
  2. Available through CELA – see CELA section below for registration.

Daisy Discs
In partnership with the CNIB, Daisy Discs audio books are available at Mississauga Central Library as a browsing collection. Daisy Discs work with Daisy players available in Central Library, Readers’ Den department, or on a MP3 CD or DVD player.

Braille Books
In partnership with the CNIB, Mississauga residents can access Braille books through CELA – see CELA section below for registration

Downloadable Materials
eBooks & eAudio Books - Download ebooks and e-audio books from home.
eMagazines (Zinio) – Download e-magazines, choosing from a large selection of titles.


Library Resources - Accessible Services

CELA - Centre for Equitable Library Access
This service provides customers with access to thousands of books, magazines and movies accessible by download or through mail. Some items are also available in French. Customers register with CELA through the Central Library, Readers’ Den department staff. Please call x3544 or email cela.registration@mississauga.ca for more information. 

Homebound Service 
Library customers who cannot visit a library can register to receive deliveries of library materials every four weeks through staff at the Central Library, Readers’ Den department.

Library Catalog
Features an accessible version of the library catalogue to assist screen readers in maneuvering through the content. 

Sign Language Interpretation Service 
You can request sign language interpretation of library programs and meetings. Sufficient notice is needed. Please speak with staff for more information and assistance.

Telephone Service 
Customers can call the library through Bell Relay Service 711, using their TTY device.
