What lot options are available for purchase at The City of Mississauga Cemeteries?

We currently have 2 active Cemeteries, in which lots are available.

  • Streetsville Public Cemetery (1786 Bristol Road West)
  • Erindale Cosmopolitan Cemetery (1745 Dundas Street West)

Types of lots available at Streetsville Public Cemetery include:

Adult Single Flat Marker (4 x 8)
  • Grave space for up to two (2) full body burials, and eight (8) cremations.
  • The option to put a "flat marker" on the grave.
  • Your choice of traditional casket burial or cremation burial.
Adult Monument Grave (4 x 8)
  • Grave space for up to two (2) full body burials, and eight (8) cremations.
  • The option to put a "upright monument or a flat marker" on the grave.
  • Your choice of traditional casket burial or cremation burial.
Adult Double Monument Grave (8 x 9)
  • Grave space for up to four (4) full body burials, and sixteen (16) cremations.
  • The option to put a "upright monument or a flat marker" on the grave.
  • Your choice of traditional casket burial or cremation burial.
Infant / Child Lot (2 x 4)
  • Grave space for up to two (1) full body burial, and one (1) cremation.
  • The option to put a "flat marker" on the grave.
  • Your choice of traditional casket burial or cremation burial.
Veterans Grave (4 x 8)
  • Grave space for up to, either, two (2) full body burials, or two (2) cremations.
  • The option to put a "flat marker" on the grave.

  • These spaces reserved for Veterans and their Spouses.
Cremated Monument Grave (4 x 8)
  • Grave space for up to eight (8) cremations.

Single Cremation Lot (2 x 2)
  • Grave space for one (1) cremation.
  • The option to put a "flat marker" on the grave.
  • Your choice of a cremation or cremated co-mingled burial.
Double Cremation Lot (2 x 4)
  • Grave space for up to two (2) cremations.
  • The option to put a "flat marker" on the grave.
  • Your choice of a cremation or cremated co-mingled burial.
Columbarium Niche (1 x 1)
  • Niche space for up to two (2) cremations.
  • The option to have the niche "engraved".
  • Your choice of a cremation or cremated co-mingled interment.
Cremated Scattering Garden (Cremated Remains Scattered)
  • Private scattering garden for cremated remains.
  • The option to put a "memorial plaque" on the scattering wall.

  • Eden (Switzer's) Cemetery (2830 Derry Road West) - On Previously Sold Lots
  • Moore's Cemetery (2030 Derry Road East) - On Previously Sold Lots

The interment options at those Cemeteries include:

Adult Single Depth Full Body Burial
Adult Double Depth Full Body Burial, Vault is required
Infant Burials, Child Burials Full Body Burial, or Cremated Remains
Cremated Burials including both In Ground and In Columbarium Niche Cremated Remains
Scattering Garden Cremated Remains
When I buy a plot, do I own the land?
You own "interment rights," specifically the right to determine or decide who may be buried in your lot.
Can anyone in the my family use the grave, niche or cremation lot?
We require a copy of the original deed as well as the written or verbal permission of the registered interment rights holder, before anyone can make use of a lot.

If the interment rights holder is deceased and no written or verbal permission has previously been provided, we require the power of attorney paperwork, or contact with the next of kin(s).

Are there any limits to the number of people that may be interred in a lot?

Are there any restrictions for any items being left on the lots?
Items are not permitted to encroach on any other lot, but the lot owned.

Can I re-sell my plot to someone else?
You are not permitted to sell your Cemetery Lot to a third party.

If you wish to sell you lot, you must contact the City of Mississauga, where we have the first right of refusal, for the buyback of your lot.

If the City of Mississauga determines it is permissible to buyback your lot, it will be bought back at the current market value, minus the original care and maintenance which was paid, and minus our transfer fee. For more information, please download the Rates & FeesPDF Document document.

If I change my mind, can I cancel a purchase and submit for a full refund?
Upon receipt of a written request within 30 days of the original signed contract date to cancel this Agreement, the City will review and determine refund potential to the Purchaser for the fees paid for the purchase of the interment rights.

The Purchaser agrees to provide an executed copy of the Cancellation of Interment Rights form to the Interment Rights Holder if the Purchaser cancels the interment rights under this Agreement.

A person may cancel his contract for interment rights only if:

  1. The interment right has not been exercised.
  2. All the requirements of the Act and this By-law are otherwise in compliance.

A person who wishes to cancel his contract for interment rights shall:

  1. Submit a completed Cancellation of Interment Rights form as provided in Schedule D of this By-law to the Commissioner
  2. Return the original Certificate of Interment Rights as issued by the Commissioner
  3. Upon receipt of all the documentation as required in this By-law, the Commissioner shall repurchase the interment rights from the owner in accordance with the Act and this By-law.
  4. Upon payment by the Commissioner for the repurchase of the interment rights, the person reselling the lot ceases to be the owner of any lot and shall have o further rights of interment or conducting any other cemetery services on the lot. In such instance, the Agreement as executed for the purchase of interment rights shall be terminated, null and void.
What type of payment options are available?
We accept all method of payment, except for cash, including:
  • Cheque (made payable to The City of Mississauga)
  • Visa, Master Card, Amex
  • Debit
Does the City of Mississauga allow for pre-planning?
Lots can be purchased ahead of time, however interments are paid at the time of need.
How would I go about finding out genealogical information from the Cemeteries office?

How would I go about getting an Upright Monument or Flat Marker installed?
Please review the Monument FormPDF Document.

If known, fill out the name of the Cemetery, Deceased, and Location of the Lot. Have the lot Owner, or Interment Rights Holder, print their name, as well as sign off for approval of the monument / marker proposed under "Installation Authorized By." Fill out the sizing of either the Flat Marker / Upright Monument, provide a drawing of the dimensions, and attach a photo of the proposed final product.

(Our office is located to the west side of the Court House Building in the Parks & Forestry Office).

We will review the monument size and style and contact you with approval and pricing for the installation.

Once the monument / marker is ready please contact our offices to advise us of delivery. This will allow us to inform staff onsite as well as be able to update our files for accurate information.

We pour foundations twice a year in June and October.

What are your office hours?
Our office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m - Monday to Friday.

We accept payments from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m - Monday to Friday.

How soon after interment may I place a memorial?
Flat Marker: Depending on how the grave settles after an interment and on the weather, we can usually install a flat marker 6 - 8 weeks.

Upright Monument: Depending on how the grave settles after an interment and on the weather, we install upright monuments twice a year, once in June and once in October.

Please Note: memorial installation is also dependant on when the memorial can be ordered.

What types of memorials are there?
The most common memorials in The City of Mississauga, Cemeteries are upright monuments, and flat markers. We also have the option of planting a memorial tree, or dedicating a memorial bench to a loved one's memory.
