Giant Hogweed

Giant Hogweed

The City of Mississauga's Forestry Unit has been inspecting and mapping locations of Giant Hogweed since 2011. The main populations are located along the Credit River and connecting creeks. In 2011, the City began pesticide applications in an effort to eradicate the plant. These applications have been successful at reducing the amount of Giant Hogweed. Inspections and pesticide applications will continue until the spread of this plant is controlled.

There are many plants that look like Giant Hogweed including Queen Anne's Lace, Wild Parsnip, Cow Parsnip and Great Angelica. For more information on Giant Hogweed and to see photos of its look-a-likes, please visit the Credit Valley Conservation page on Hogweed.
