Description: Slide shows the completed Lake Aquitaine morning glory spillway, taken from the north shore. Swimmers are using the concrete platform as a spot for diving. Early on, it was known that the lake would not be good for swimming due to the fact that it was filled by storm water, not fed by freshwater tributaries. Excavation of Lake Aquitaine began in September 1976 and continued until November 1977 when the new landscape was substantially completed. Water was allowed to flow into the lake in the spring of 1977 and normal water levels were reached on August 16, 1977. The official Grand Opening of Lake Aquitaine took place on June 24, 1978. Description as of March, 2013.
