Baseball, hockey, soccer, shooting, skating, and golf are some of the sports that the
residents of Toronto Township enjoyed in the old days. Cooksville had its baseball teams, both
men's and women's, as well as a soccer team. Skating and sleigh riding were popular
winter pastimes. Dixie Arena Gardens, built in 1949, was the home of the famous minor
hockey team, the Dixie Beehives, sponsored by St. Lawrence Starch Company.
