Be Active. Celebrate Seniors’ Month and Recreation and Parks Month in June

June is Seniors’ Month and Recreation and Parks Month in Mississauga. Residents are encouraged to participate in a variety of outdoor and indoor events offered by the City. These programs and events provide residents with the opportunity to make Mississauga a healthy, active and engaged community.

“We are excited to celebrate Recreation and Parks Month and Seniors’ Month this June with a variety of activities and events,” said Paul Mitcham, Commissioner of Community Services. “Our programs focus on promoting active lifestyles and the overall well-being and health of residents. No matter what age or ability, residents can access activities and events within their neighbourhoods.”

Seniors’ Month

Seniors’ Month is a province-wide initiative that recognizes the commitment and contributions of older adults to the community. It provides an opportunity to promote programs and services available for older adults living in Mississauga. This year’s theme is “Living Your Best Life”.

  • Older Adult Expo: On June 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the City is hosting its annual Mississauga Older Adult Expo at the Hershey Community Rinks. This free event features over 50 vendors, technology and fitness demonstrations, MiWay Tours, and a local Seniors’ Got Talent Show. For information, visit: mississauga.ca/olderadults.
  • Library Programs for Older Adults: Libraries across Mississauga are celebrating older adults with various events and activities.

Recreation and Parks Month

Recreation and Parks Month promotes the benefits of being active. It recognizes how recreation and parks contribute to the quality of life for individuals, families and communities. Residents are encouraged to be active and enjoy City recreational programs and spaces.

  • Recreation and Cultural Programs: Try a variety of drop-in programs including swims, group exercise and creative classes.
  • Outdoor Spaces: Explore the City’s 2,988 hectares (7,384 acres) of parkland, 368 sports fields, 263 playgrounds and over 327 kilometres of trails. For information, visit: mississauga.ca/parks.
