City Adds Key Data and Announces Next Hackathon for Open Data Day

The City of Mississauga is celebrating International Open Data Day on March 3 with the addition of new data in the Open Data Catalogue.

The new sets of data include a list of all City-owned trees planted in Mississauga and a list of website analytics from mississauga.ca. With the City-owned tree inventory data, the public can access information such as the type of tree, size of tree and conditions of trees. Data about the City’s website will allow the public to view web traffic stats from 2016 and 2017 such as the most viewed web pages and web activity by country.

More than 125 sets of data are now available in the Open Data Catalogue. More additions are expected this year, including environmental data.

“The City is committed to making open data accessible to everyone while continuing to add new data sets to our inventory,” said Shawn Slack, Director of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer. “Open Data Day is more than a celebration of open data – it reinforces the importance of transparency and collaboration with the community. We’re also launching our Open Data Roadmap in the coming months that will outline the City’s future plans and goals and showcase our many achievements on open data.”

This fall, the community can also look forward to Tech and the City. The third annual hack day event will be hosted by the City of Mississauga in partnership with the University of Toronto Mississauga, Sheridan College and SOTI Inc. Tech and the City is a one-day innovation hackathon for the community to engage and create solutions using open data.
