City Business Plan and Budget Recognized for 25th Consecutive Year

Today at City Council, Mississauga marked 25 consecutive years of receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

The award recognizes the 2014 Business Plan and Budget and the City’s delivery of financial information in a clear, concise and informative manner.  According to the GFOA, “The award represents a significant achievement. It reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.”

“This award shows the commitment of City Council and staff to deliver excellence in financial services to residents,” said Gary Kent, Commissioner, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer. “Clear and transparent financial information is how the City demonstrates its accountability to the community.”

Background

The purpose of the Government Finance Officers Association is to enhance and promote the professional management of governments for the public benefit by identifying and developing financial policies and best practices and promoting their use through education, training, facilitation of member networking, and leadership.
