City of Mississauga Recognized with Two Prestigious Financial Awards

The City of Mississauga has won two financial awards through the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). This includes the Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award for the 2020 Financial Report Highlights for the fifth year in a row and the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for the 2020 Financial & Sustainability Report for the 24th consecutive year. Mississauga continues to be the longest-running municipality in Ontario to achieve this honour.

“Receiving these two prestigious awards shows the City’s commitment to excellence in financial reporting and stewardship,” said Shari Lichterman, Commissioner of Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer. “I would like to thank Mayor and Council for their leadership and congratulate our City team on this award.”

Canadian Award for Financial Reporting

The City was recognized and received this award for presenting financial information in a clear, concise, innovative and informative manner.

2020 was the first year the City began reporting on sustainability-related initiatives. This report showcases how the City built components of sustainability into planning, accounting and reporting activities, including in its Strategic Plan, several Master Plans and initiatives.

Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award

This award recognizes the City’s strong ability to produce a high-quality popular annual financial report that is easy to read and understand and is accessible to the residents who may only have a basic understanding of finance.
