The City of Mississauga is excited to announce Marisa Chiu as the new Director of Finance and Treasurer, effective March 20, 2023. She replaces Jeff Jackson, who retired in 2022.

“I’m pleased to welcome Marisa to the City of Mississauga and to the City’s extended leadership team,” said Shari Lichterman, Acting City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer. “Marisa brings extensive experience in budgeting, financial reporting, accounting, systems support and risk management. In her new role as director, she can apply her knowledge and direct experience to the City’s budget while providing efficient and effective financial services and advice to Council and staff.”

Reporting to the Commissioner of Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer, Chiu will be responsible for managing all business functions of the Finance Division. This includes corporate business planning, the budget process, the City’s Long-Range Financial Plan, and City-wide financial services like accounts payable, investment management, accounting and financial reporting, and revenue and taxation.

“I look forward to joining the City of Mississauga and working with staff, stakeholders, senior leaders, as well as Members of Council. I am excited to work with all of the Finance division teams to deliver, support and implement key corporate initiatives and strategies across the organization,” said Marisa Chiu, Director of Finance and Treasurer for the City of Mississauga.

Before joining the City of Mississauga, Chiu was the Comptroller of Finance & Enterprise Risk and Interim Executive Officer of Finance at the Toronto District School Board, where she managed a diverse portfolio. She oversaw its $3.5 billion budget, financial reporting, accounting, financial systems support, risk management, community services, transportation, procurement, nutrition services, payroll, benefits, and internal audit. Prior to that, Chiu worked at BDO Canada LLP and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, advising clients on accounting, tax, assurance and business valuation matters. She has over 20 years of experience working in both the public and private sectors. In her past roles, Chiu was also actively involved in developing and reviewing board-level policies and procedures and has led several system modernization projects.

Chiu holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto Rotman School of Management. She is also a Chartered Accountant (Ontario) and Chartered Professional Accountant (Ontario).
