Mississauga Kicks-Off Ontario Parasport Games with Opening Ceremony this Friday

Mississauga will kick-off the 2022 Ontario Parasport Games with an Official Opening Ceremony at Mississauga Celebration Square (MCS) this Friday, May 13, 2022. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to participate in the festivities and cheer on the dedicated and accomplished competitors.

The opening ceremony marks the start of a two-day athletic competition for more than 500 participants ages 12 to 35. Athletes will compete in nine different sports including sledge hockey, wheelchair tennis, sitting volleyball, para-karate and more. The opening ceremony will also feature live remarks from Mayor Bonnie Crombie and Gimma Stacey Laforme of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and recorded greetings from Host Councillors Pat Saito and Matt Mahoney as well as Games Co-Chairs, Susan Stewart and Billy Bridges. The evening will end with a headline performance by Mississauga’s very-own, Alex Porat.

Mississauga was originally named as the host city for both the Ontario Parasport Games and Ontario Summer Games in April 2019. The Ontario Parasport Games, originally scheduled for 2021, was postponed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2022 Ontario Parasport Summer Games takes place in Mississauga from May 13 to 15, 2022.
