New Awards Announced as Mississauga Seeks Nominations for Civic Awards of Recognition

Local government | March 5, 2018

Nominations are now open for the City of Mississauga’s 2018 Civic Awards of Recognition. Starting today, until April 30, you can nominate outstanding individuals, community groups and businesses whose work makes Mississauga a great place to be.

This year, in addition to community volunteering and achievements in sports and the arts, the City will recognize two new groups of nominees:
•    Businesses, community groups or individuals who have consistently removed barriers for people with disabilities
•    Youth ages 14 to 24 who volunteer for more than 100 hours in community and civic activities.

Know an individual or an organization that qualifies? Visit the City’s website at mississauga.ca/civicrecognition, read the award criteria and fill out the online nomination form. You can also download the form and submit it by email or mail.

The City will consider the first 100 nominees and review nominations on a first-come, first-served basis. Make sure your nomination counts by sending it in early!

Nominees who qualify will be invited to receive their awards during a formal ceremony at the Mississauga Civic Centre on Tuesday, June 12, 2018.

Mississauga is an inclusive city that welcomes diversity and encourages residents of all ages and backgrounds to take part in civic life. Launched in 1992, the Civic Recognition Program recognizes outstanding achievements, community volunteers and important milestones. Youth volunteers and work that supports accessibility fit with the spirit of Mississauga and are deserving additions to the recognition program. The Civic Recognition Program also includes the Certificate of Recognition, the Civic Award of Merit and Civic Award of Philanthropy.
