Thinking About a Summer Reno Project?

Business and innovation | May 29, 2014

Mississauga residents who are thinking about starting a summer renovation project can visit the City’s new and improved Building & Renovating website for helpful online information. New information has been added to help make planning small renovation projects easier and more convenient.

“Now, residents can get the information they need to plan their summer building projects on our website 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Ezio Savini, the City’s Chief Building Official.  “We know people can’t always make the trip to our Customer Services Centre to ask how big a deck they can build on their house or if they need a building permit. That’s why we took the answers to questions people ask most often and put them online.”

The City has information on building projects like decks, sheds, swimming pools and driveways. New information about Mississauga’s zoning by-law will help residents find things like the distance a shed should be from a property line, or whether they need a building permit for a new deck. Residents can access zoning information directly at mississauga.ca/zoning.

Savini says the information will be a great help for people just starting their project planning but adds there’s no substitute for checking with the City first before building.

“We’ve got a great team of professional staff who can help residents make sure their projects meet City and Ontario Building Code standards,” he said.
