Refreshment vehicles

What you need to apply for a refreshment vehicle licence to drive a food truck or coffee truck in Mississauga.

You can apply online for a food truck driver’s licence or refreshment vehicle driver’s licence, or log in to manage your licence online.

To apply for a refreshment vehicle driver’s licence, you’ll need to submit:

  • A Driver/Operator Licence Application
  • Proof that you’re at least 18 years old
  • Proof of Canadian citizenship, landed immigrant status or a valid work permit
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence, Class G minimum
  • Ontario driver’s record completed in the last 30 days
  • A certificate of medical fitness proving you’re fit to drive and free from communicable diseases, issued in the last 30 days
  • A letter of potential employment from a licensed refreshment vehicle owner
  • A photo of you. We’ll take your photo when you apply in person. If you apply online you’ll need to upload a photo. Photos must:
    • Be clear, sharp and in focus with no shadows or glare
    • You must be looking at the camera with your face and shoulders centred in the photo and a neutral facial expression

Licence fees

A refreshment vehicle driver’s licence costs $186.98. Fees are payable by cheque, debit, Visa, Mastercard or Amex.


Renewing a driver’s licence

Your licence will expire every year on April 30. A renewal notice will be mailed to the address we have on file for you.

To renew your licence, you’ll need to pay the renewal fee and submit the following documents:

  • Licence Renewal Application
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence, Class G minimum
  • Ontario driver’s record (provided by the Mobile Licensing Office and included in your renewal fee)

Renewal fee

The fee to renew your licence is $181.68.

If you don’t renew your licence within 30 days of the expiry date, you’ll have to reapply as a new applicant.

Renew licence in person

Book an appointment to submit your documents and pay your fee in person to the Mobile Licensing Office.

You’ll only be admitted to the building if you have a scheduled appointment. If you’re late by 10 minutes or more, your appointment will be cancelled and you’ll need to reschedule.

If you don’t renew your licence within 30 days of the expiry date, you’ll have to apply for a new licence.

To apply for a refreshment vehicle owner’s licence you’ll need to submit:

  • An Owner Licence Application. This must be completed by the business owner, partner, president or an authorized agent.
  • Proof that you’re at least 18 years old
  • Proof of Canadian citizenship, landed immigrant status or a valid work permit
  • Articles of incorporation and/or business registration documents, if applying as a company
  • A copy of the registered declaration of partnership, if applying as a registered partnership
  • Motor vehicle permit from the Ministry of Transportation
  • Certificate of insurance with a minimum $2 million coverage and endorsed to the City of Mississauga
  • A Ministry of Transportation vehicle inspection report that shows vehicle has been accepted within 60 days
  • Lease agreement, if vehicle is leased
  • Health inspection from the Region of Peel
  • Technical safety standard authority (TSSA) propane inspection, if applicable
  • List of suppliers, if applicable

Your vehicle must be inspected at the Mobile Licensing Office.

Food truck owners will also need to submit:

  • Written consent from the owner of the property where the food truck will operate including location details and permitted hours of operation
  • A site plan showing the location of the food truck and all buildings, driveways and parking lots
  • Written consent from the local Business Improvement Association, if any
  • Written consent from the Commissioner of Community Services to operate on or near a City-owned property
  • A park permit, if applicable

Licence fees

A refreshment vehicle owner’s licence will cost $310.84. Fees are payable by cheque, Debit, Visa, Master Card or AMEX.


Renewing an owner’s licence

Your licence will expire every year on April 30. A renewal notice will be mailed to the address we have on file for you.

To renew your licence you’ll need to submit the following documents and pay your renewal fee:

  • A Licence Renewal Application
  • Valid master business name registration, if applicable
  • Certificate of insurance endorsed to the City of Mississauga
  • Provincial ownership of vehicle
  • Safety standard certificate
  • Technical standards and safety authority (TSSA) inspection report, if propane is used
  • Health inspection from the Region of Peel

If you don’t renew your licence within 30 days of the expiry date, you’ll have to reapply as a new applicant.

Renewal fee

The fee to renew your licence is $301.56.

If you don’t renew your licence within 30 days of the expiry date, you’ll have to reapply as a new applicant.
