Welcome to the Building
Division information page of the Planning and Building Department. Here you will find
information regarding the issuance of Building permits, inspections, zoning requirements and
sign permits. In the articles listed below you can find applicable guidelines, fees and
charges, and application forms. We hope to be moving to a new automated process, known as
e-Plans, within the near future to better serve our clients needs. e-Plans
will enable clients to submit applications on-line and often eliminating the need to come into
the Mississauga Civic Centre. More information will be posted on this site as we proceed
towards this new initiative being implemented. In the interim, we encourage our clients to
utilize our many other online services to access information regarding Building permit related
issues and to visit our Planning and Building Customer Services Centre. |
The Building
Division administers the Building Code Act and Regulations which requires all City of
Mississauga Building Division staff to be qualified and trained within their respective areas
and disciplines of the code, to promote public safety, and code enforcement. This is
accomplished through Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing examination/certification as
well as years of practical experience in the field and is the cornerstone of our
Division. |
The Ontario
Building Code outlines the need for accountability of building officials, the building
profession as a whole and the obligation of the industry to build structures to the highest
safety and environmental standards. The Building division takes its obligation to customer
service and public safety very seriously. We remain active within the Ontario Building
Officials Association (OBOA) GTA Chapter in promoting continuing education and sharing of
practical experience. Leo Cusumano, the Building Divisions Manager of Inspection Services
is the 2012 OBOA president. |
The Building
Code Act requires us to charge for our services to ensure we are able to uphold the
requirements therein. I am please to say that our fees are very competitive as compared with
other municipalities of our size. Utilizing our in-house expertise and efficiencies, we provide
excellent value to our customers. We issue approximately 3300-3400 permits annually with the
vast majority of these being small buildings and residential. |
As Chief
Building Official I look forward to working with our valued clients to make your building
experience a pleasant one regardless as to whether it is a home renovation for a resident or a
major building project for our corporate clients. |
