Get involved with maintaining Mississauga’s parks, trails and gardens through various volunteer programs.

Litter Cleanup

Help keep Mississauga parks litter-free by participating in a one-time clean-up event. Participants in this program will be responsible for picking up litter in a designated park, using tools the City provides.

This program is open to all community members and groups.

To participate in the Litter Cleanup Program, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be available for a minimum of two hours on the event day

For all cleanups, the City will provide:

  • Gloves
  • Garbage bags
  • Garbage collection service

Volunteer to clean up parks

Adopt a Park

Help upkeep Mississauga parks by participating in a two-year Adopt a Park program. Participants in this program will be responsible for collecting litter in their designated park for a minimum of three times a year.

This program is open to all community members and groups.

To participate in the Adopt a Park Program, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Make a two-year commitment

For all cleanups, the City will provide:

  • Gloves
  • Garbage bags
  • Garbage collection service

At the end of a volunteer’s first year with the program, the City will install a park signage in recognition of the volunteer’s commitment and effort.

At the end of the second year, the City will provide the volunteer with a Certificate of Appreciation signed by the Mayor.

Volunteer to adopt a park

Adopt a Flower Bed

Help maintain and beautify flower beds in Mississauga parks by participating in the Adopt a Flower Bed Program. Participants in this program will be responsible for taking care of their designated flower bed and implementing weed control for at least two hours a month from spring to fall.

This program is open to all community members and groups.

To participate in the Adopt a Flower Bed Program, you must:

  • Attend a training session offered by the City
  • Make a commitment from spring to fall

Some locations may require previous gardening experience.

For volunteers, the City will provide:

  • Training sessions about the responsibilities, safety and types of plants
  • Gloves
  • Gardening tools
  • Waste and weed collection service

This program is unavailable during the winter.

Adopt a Trail

Help maintain and monitor Mississauga’s network of trails by adopting a trail in your community. Participants of this program will be responsible for visiting their designated trail at least six times a year to collect litter and monitor, identify and report hazards.

This program is open to all community members and groups.

To participate in the Adopt a Trail Program, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Make a two-year commitment
  • Complete online and in-person training modules offered by the City

For volunteers, the City will provide:

  • Training about the responsibilities, safety and guidelines for trail monitoring and maintenance
  • Gloves
  • Garbage bags
  • Garbage collection service

At the end of a volunteer’s first year with the program, the City will install a trail signage in recognition of the volunteer’s commitment and effort.

At the end of the second year, the City will provide the volunteer with a Certificate of Appreciation signed by the Mayor.

Volunteer to adopt a trail

Mississauga Nature Stewards

Help manage invasive species in Mississauga parks and natural areas by becoming a Mississauga Nature Steward. There are three parts to the program, including:

  • Garlic Mustard Task Force
  • Invasive groundcover removals
  • Staff-led workdays and events

Participants of this program will be responsible for removing invasive plants in a designated park or natural area using the tools the City provides.

This program is open to all community members and groups.

To participate in the Mississauga Nature Stewards program, you must:

  • Be at least 14 years old
  • Dedicate a minimum of five hours to individual volunteer work or attend two staff-led events

For volunteers, the City will provide:

  • Training on identifying invasive species and techniques to removing invasive species
  • Gloves
  • Garbage bags and tags
  • Garbage collection service
