Library of things

Our library of things is a collection of items that you can borrow for free using your library card, just like the library’s books and media.

Items in the collection have different borrowing requirements and loan periods. There is a replacement fee for lost or damaged items.

Borrow a carbon dioxide monitor

Use

Measure indoor carbon dioxide (CO2) level, temperature, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure to help take steps to improve ventilation and lower risks of airborne infections.

Borrow a Credit Valley Conservation Parks pass

Use

Access Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) and Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) parks and attractions for free.

Item details

  • Limit of two passes for any park location per library card.
  • Each pass entitles you to free general admission for up to six people in one vehicle during regular operating hours.

Borrow a disc golf set

Use

Can be used to play disc golf by individuals of all skill or experience level.

  • Set includes three discs for all the necessary shots on the course, a fairway driver, mid-range disc and a putt and approach disc.
  • Also includes a bonus marker disc to mark your lie during play.

Borrow an early years engineering kit

Use

Enjoy a selection of kits containing manipulative toys, puzzles, matching games and building sets for young children to focus on early engineering skills.

Each kit includes a different engineering activity or puzzle for young children, along with two or three age-appropriate books.

Borrow a fishing rod and tackle box

Can only be checked out from and returned to Meadowvale Library.

Use

Use the rod to fish and the tackle box to store and organize your gear.

These items are part of the TackleShare Program, initiated by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH). This program gives new and intermediate anglers the opportunity to go fishing by removing barriers that prevent you from getting involved, such as access to fishing equipment.

  • Aquatics staff at community centres can advise on fit and general water safety.

Borrow a light therapy lamp

These lamps are available at all library locations for use only at the library.

Use

Get a boost of sunshine through our light therapy lamps. Sit next to a lamp and enjoy the benefits while you read or work in the library.

Loan period

Available on a first-come, first-served, drop-in basis.

Item details

  • Light therapy lamps emit light that mimics outdoor light.
  • They are known to help lift your mood and reduce symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) during the fall and winter.

Use

Access 330 provincial parks in Ontario for free.

Loan period

Item details

  • Limit of any two passes per library card.
  • Allows complimentary day-use access for one vehicle and its occupants at more than 100 provincial parks.
  • Visit the Ontario Parks online Parks Locator for a map of “operating” park. locations and the Ontario Parks Operating Dates page to view which parks are open for day-use at different times of year.

Borrow a Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives family pass

Use

Enjoy free family general admission to the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA).
