Mississauga: From the "Cindarella's
Township" to "Canada's 6th largest City"
Doors Open Mississauga revisits the 1957 promotional film, The Cinderella Township
as a point of departure for its annual city showcase event. This 13 minute film was created by
the Township of Toronto (now City of Mississauga) to attract new industries and residents to
the area.
The film will be screening throughout the month of September on Mississauga Celebration Square.
An accompanying exhibition of film stills and contemporary photographs by Marco Veltri are also
on view at the Mississauga Central Library beginning September 6th, 2011. This project is
co-presented by the City of Mississauga's Culture Division, Mississauga Library System and
Heritage Mississauga, and is supported by Friends of the Library and Metalworks.
