Sport plays an integral role in the
well-being of our City, so it is important
that we plan for the future.
The Mississauga Sport Plan will ensure we continue to actively invest in sport; encourage greater collaboration with community partners; and make good use of existing facilities.
The Plan will provide guidance to staff and community sport organizations for delivering quality sports programs in Mississauga over the next 5 years. It will focus on developing community partnerships, public engagement and investments that will ultimately enhance sport delivery throughout the City.
Mississauga offers tremendous opportunities for active living for residents of all ages, abilities, cultural backgrounds and socio economic circumstance. With more than 800 recreation and sport facilities including: pools; playgrounds; fitness centres; tennis courts; baseball diamonds; soccer fields; cricket pitches; golf courses and ice rinks. Based on your interests and abilities you have the opportunity to participate in the sport and the level of your choice. Volunteering in sport as a coach, mentor, organizer, official and member of the many community organization allows you the chance to give back and be a role model to local children and youth.
Stories of inspiration, memories of personal achievement and lifelong friendships are often the result of participating in sport. As a place where people chose to live, work and play - sport is an essential part of life in Mississauga.
The City of Mississauga's draft Sport Plan received endorsement from General Committee to move forward for public consultation in late March. The draft Sport Plan developed through consultation with community sports groups and leaders includes seven areas of focus and 40 recommendations to assist in developing, promoting and delivering physical activities for residents of all ages, abilities, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.

Sport touches so many of us in so many different ways... What is your favourite sport memory? Was it a game winning homerun at a local baseball diamond? Was it the leadership of a coach that helped you succeed? Or maybe it was just enjoying a cup of hot chocolate at a local hockey game? Please take a few moments to share with us your favourite Mississauga sporting memory. It will serve as inspiration as we build a plan that supports our City's sport community.
Mississauga has a history of hosting successful national and regional sporting events - such as the Memorial Cup and the North American Roller Hockey Championships. As part of the City's Sport Plan - the Sport Tourism Strategy will continue to build on that success by providing a focused approach to bringing sporting events to Mississauga.
Based on discussions with local sports organizations, and a review of our facilities and hospitality venues, the Sport Tourism Strategy will help us focus on attracting tournaments and major sporting events that best use our existing infrastructure, showcase the City as a sport destination and draw a larger number of spectators who will support the local hotel, retail and food and beverage industry by staying and spending in Mississauga.
