About the artist

A young woman wearing a white dress and a green scarf.

Caroline Forde is a Canadian textile artist living and working in Toronto, Ontario. Her love for vintage fabrics and natural colours inspires her surface design process. Caroline’s research and studio practice is focused on the debate around environmental issues in textile production and the designer’s role and responsibility in relation to these. The selection of raw materials, the impact of production and the product’s life cycle are all considered in her design process. Miss alignment, free flowing mark making and natural colours create the unique surfaces found on her work. Alongside her studio practice, she has been instructing textile design workshops since 2015 to a wide range of audiences including artists, designers, and craftspeople.

While pursuing her design education Caroline has been the recipient of several textile residencies located at the Icelandic Textile Center, the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Peters Valley School of Craft, and Harbourfront Centre. She continues creating new work through her personal practice as a Resident Artist of the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga.
