Yield to Buses: Help Keep Everyone Moving Safely

When you yield to a MiWay bus, you’re helping keep transit safe, reliable, and on time. It also helps traffic flow better for everyone on the road.

Under Ontario law Ontario Highway Traffic Act – Section 142.1, drivers must give the right of way to a bus that is leaving a designated bus stop and merging back into traffic.

What to remember:

• MiWay buses have a “Yield” sign on the back.
• If a bus signals to leave a stop, you must let it merge into your lane.
• This rule applies when buses are leaving bus bays or designated stops—not at intersections.
• Not yielding can result in fines and penalties.

Watch for the signal and give buses the space they need to merge safely.
