Today at Council, the City of Mississauga acknowledged two awards it received from the
Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) recognizing excellence in financial reporting
and budget presentation.
The City was awarded the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for the 2011 Financial
Report for the 15th consecutive year.
"This award is one of the highest honours a municipality can receive for financial
reporting and is presented for comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit
of transparency and full disclosure," said Brenda Breault, commissioner of Corporate
Services and Treasurer.
The City was also awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2012-2014
Business Plan Update and 2012 Budget for the 24th consecutive year.
"Assessed based on its effectiveness as a policy document, financial plan, operations
guide and communication vehicle this prestigious award recognizes municipalities that succeed
in preparing budget documents of the highest quality and that reflect the GFOA's budgeting best
practices," explained Breault.
"These two awards demonstrate the unwavering commitment of staff and Council to excellence
in financial planning and reporting for the City of Mississauga," said Breault. "The
