As of 2016, dedicated stormwater funding is now available to:
- Reduce storm-related flood risks
- Improve water quality treatment
- Increase by-law enforcement
- Increase monitoring and maintenance activities
- Adapt the storm drainage system to climate change
- Meet increasing regulatory requirements
- Save for future storm pipe life cycle renewal
- Increase public awareness of stormwater and ways to reduce flood risk on private property
