Mississauga’s Finance Division Recognized for Financial Excellence

Local government | May 11, 2016

Today at Council, the City of Mississauga’s Finance Division received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its 2014 Financial Report. The City was also awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2015-2018 Business Plan and Update and 2015 Budget.

This presentation marks the 18th consecutive year that the GFOA recognized the City for producing a comprehensive annual report and the 26th consecutive year for the business plan update and budget.

“The City is committed to providing residents with complete and accessible financial data,” said Gary Kent, Commissioner of Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer. “Thanks to Council’s leadership and the efforts of our dedicated City staff, we have delivered an annual report, business plan update and budget that meet that high standard.”

The awards encourage municipalities to present clear and concise public financial documents and reports. Together they represent one of the highest honours a Canadian municipality can receive for its financial reporting and business planning standards.
