The City’s long-range Community Services plans for the CultureRecreationParks & ForestryLibrary and Fire & Emergency Services divisions were approved today during General Committee.

“We’re very proud of the work that has been put into these plans. They provide short and long-term priorities for our Community Services service areas,”

said Paul Mitcham, Commissioner, Community Services. “They address concerns about existing programs and services, align with Council priorities and investigate innovative and unique opportunities to enhance City services and programs.”

Plans were developed by combining input from the community with feedback from targeted user groups and other stakeholders. The input was combined with other relevant data, inputs and trends to guide how the City spends its time, resources and funds on community priorities.

Mitcham added, “Reflecting demographic, social and cultural changes within Mississauga, these plans help ensure we’re responding to and preparing for the changing needs of residents. Our intention was to encourage as many citizens as possible to provide their input and feedback to help shape our plans for facilities, parks and trails for the future.”

Last year, the community shared their thoughts on the future of programs and services for these five key areas. A lot of input and suggestions were received through a mix of surveys, online feedback, face-to-face meetings, a series of public consultations and at community events.

Plans are reviewed every five years with a comprehensive review every 10 years.

The plans go to Council on February 6, 2019 for final approval. To read or review the plans, visit yoursay.mississauga.ca/yourfuture.
