Tyler Matheson is one of the current Resident Artists participating in the City of Mississauga’s Resident Artist Program at the Living Arts Centre.

About the artist

Tyler Matheson received his BFA in Painting and Photography from York University and MFA from the University of Waterloo. He is committed to investigating queer theory, history, and experiences. He examines the aesthetics of interaction and the performativity of objects by utilizing non-art, found objects, and ready-made materials.

His work includes and combines painting, sculpture, alternative techniques in photography and installation. Recent exhibitions include Above the Belt Below the Bush with curatorial collective Minor Hockey in North Bay, Fresh Paint and New Construction Art Mur Montreal, Minding the Archive, Hamilton Artist Inc and solo exhibition, Any other name would smell as sweet, University of Waterloo Art Gallery. He was awarded a Shantz International Research Scholarship through the University of Waterloo and worked with German artists Fabian Treiber and Dave Bopp in the summer of 2019. He was recently a recipient of the 2019 Superframe Framing Fund.
