Mississauga is the first city in Canada to license Medical Marijuana Production Facilities to improve safety at the local level.
Under the Medical Marijuana Production Facilities Licensing By-law, facilities will need to meet fire, electrical and building codes, have a Health Canada licence and a zoning certificate. Through the by-law the City will be able to enforce zoning for medical marijuana production facilities and determine where they are located.
The by-law complements rules and regulations already in place from Health Canada and provides better monitoring and information for response from police, fire and emergency services.
