The City of Mississauga's MiWay Mobile Site was recognized with a prestigious Excellence in
Municipal Systems award by the Municipal Information Systems Association (MISA) at its annual
conference on June 7.
"Timely and reliable information is critical to providing exceptional customer
service," said Geoff Marinoff, director of Transit. "Transit riders with a
web-enabled smartphone now have access to an easy-to-use online method of accessing transit
routes and schedules while they are on the go or waiting at a bus stop."
"The site received more than 320,000 page views and 61,000 visits from more than 10,000
unique users in May 2011, up more than 40 per cent since January." "Transit riders
are finding this innovative website to be a much needed and appreciated service," added
The City of Mississauga launched the MiWay Mobile Site in October 2010. The Mobile Site enables
customers with a smart phone or any other mobile device to view the next three departure times,
or the full schedule for any day of the week, for any bus stop in Mississauga.
The Municipal Information Systems Association (MISA) is an established Canadian association of
municipal government representatives and others interested in the effective use of information
technology to provide better and more cost-effective services to municipal taxpayers and
clients. MISA has been established in the Province of Ontario since 1971 and in the Province of
British Columbia since 1994. Municipalities in other provinces gradually established MISA
chapters from the late 1990s.
As Canada's sixth largest city, Mississauga is home to 734,000 residents and 55,000
businesses, including 63 Fortune 500 companies with Canadian head offices or major divisional
head offices. A diverse, progressive and award-winning municipality located on the shores of
Lake Ontario in the heart of the Greater Toronto Area, Mississauga is "Leading Today for
Tomorrow" by focussing on delivering services, implementing its Strategic Plan, delivering
value for money, maintaining infrastructure and continuing to be an employer of choice.
