Background

What initiated the project:

  • In 2011, the City of Mississauga purchased Our Lady of the Airways School site located to the west of the original park property
  • A place making exercise with the community in 2012 confirmed the need for a redevelopment plan with new facilities and park improvements
  • In 2013, the City hired a consultant to provide services for detailed park design and construction contract administration

Goals and objectives

The following facilities and improvements make this park more colourful, playful and inviting:

  • Paved pathways connect the main park elements and provide a walking loop (with painted distance markers every 100 metres) around the perimeter
  • Accessible seating and benches with shade options
  • Central gathering space with attractive shade structure
  • Children’s playground with new play equipment, swings, accessible elements, and sand play pit
  • Shade trees along pathways and native buffer planting
  • Redeveloped parking area for 38 cars and two accessible spaces
  • Two unlit tennis courts with surface painted in green and blue
  • Multi-purpose sport court includes bright colours on surface and two basketball hoops
  • Sand surface volleyball court with adjacent grassy berm for spectator seating
  • Open green space and ball diamond still remain
