Reason for the study

We’re aiming to build complete streets that make roads across the city safer and more accessible for everyone. To make these improvements, we’re studying three roads in Ward 9 to explore potential permanent infrastructure we can implement in the future.

The three roads include:

  • Aquitaine Avenue (Tenth Line West to Millcreek Drive)
  • Argentia Road (signalized driveway east of Winston Churchill Boulevard to Turner Valley Road)
  • Millcreek Drive (Derry Road West to Britannia Road West)

We will use the data from the study to select and recommend the best design alternative that embodies the complete streets philosophy, as well as the multi-modal and Vision Zero approaches aimed at making the roads more accessible, safe and comfortable for all road users.

Project updates

June 2026

The City re-examined alternatives and updated its recommendations after reviewing provincial legislation and results from the study. The recommended design for Aquitaine Avenue and Argentia Road is a four-lane configuration that includes an in-boulevard, multi-use path.

Concept sketch illustrating the recommended typical road cross-section for Aquitaine Avenue, Argentia Road and Millcreek Drive. Illustration shows a road with four general purpose travel lanes for vehicles, a sidewalk on one side, a multi-use path on the other, and street trees.

  • On Aquitaine Avenue, the multi-use path is proposed to be located on the south side of the road to minimize tree impacts within the boulevard
  • On Argentia Road, the multi-use path is proposed to be located on the north side, where a sidewalk is currently absent
  • For Millcreek Drive, the recommended option is pending

The proposed construction timing is tentative and subject to ongoing annual review, coordination with other stakeholders, prioritization and budget approval.

Other proposed road safety mitigation measures for each corridor will be explored further and included as the detailed design progresses. For more information on the results of the study, refer to the Evaluation Summary in the project documents section.

January 2026

City staff have been reviewing recent provincial legislation which deals with the installation of cycling infrastructure. We are adjusting our study recommendations accordingly. Final recommendations for Aquitaine Avenue will include:

  • A proposed schedule of works along the corridor, taking into consideration any planned Region of Peel works
  • Recommended street designs for all road users
  • A final construction schedule

Public engagement

In June 2025, the City conducted a survey and held an in-person public meeting to consult the public about the Argentia and Millcreek Road Safety Projects, and to check in on Aquitaine Avenue’s interim three lane plus bicycle lane configuration.
