Final design and construction of future park
Overview
The lands at Grand Highland cover 11.5 hectares (28 acres) in the Hurontario neighbourhood between Hurontario Street and Highway 403. The City wants to turn the lands into a sustainable, distinctive park which balances its cultural and historical importance with the present and future needs of the community.
The location is important to the First Nations and Indigenous Communities as it’s close to the former Antrex Indigenous Village. Through consultation with the First Nations and Indigenous Communities, the future park will integrate commemorative elements to provide a respectful and correct interpretation of the Village as directed by City of Mississauga Council Resolution 0038-2022 in a strong step towards Reconciliation.
Consultation with First Nations and Indigenous Communities
Consultation with the First Nations and Indigenous Communities is ongoing and separate from the public engagement process. It will be reported on by the City’s Indigenous Relations, Heritage and Culture Planning Section at the completion of the project.
The City has consulted with the First Nations and Indigenous Communities before each phase of public engagement and will continue to for the duration of the project.
Public engagement
Phase 1
In summer 2025, we conducted a survey to understand what features and activities the public is interested in for the future park and more than 950 surveys were completed.
The Closing the Loop Summary for Phase 1 outlines the key public engagement findings which has informed the programming and conceptual design of the future park.
Phase 2
During Phase 2 of public engagement, we will be asking for feedback on the conceptual design of the future park (Concept Plan).
The Concept Plan includes the proposed facilities, amenities and features and has been prepared based on:
- Consultation with the First Nations and Indigenous Communities
- Input received from Phase 1 of public engagement
- Parks, Forestry and Environment 2024 Future Directions Plan
- Technical analysis
- Capital budget
Passive experiences like multi-use trails, trees, natural and open grass areas have been prioritized in the Concept Plan, with commemoration of the Antrex Indigenous Village and the First Nations and Indigenous Communities serving as the cornerstone for the future park.

Commemoration of the Antrex Indigenous Village will be incorporated into the future park through the design and theming of facilities, amenities and features such as the tiered gathering space and interpretive and learning elements that reflect the culture and teachings that the Indigenous Communities envision for the future park.
These elements will move beyond simple recognition and will create the first space for First Nations and Indigenous Communities in the City, which will allow everyone to come, learn and share within the same space.
Your responses will help inform the future park’s final design, which will be subject to consultation with the First Nations and Indigenous Communities, detailed design and technical analysis. Help shape this future park by taking the online survey by March 15.
