Micro-mobility rules and etiquette

You must be 16 years of age or older to use an e-bike or e-scooter.

Rental e-bikes or e-scooters have to be returned to designated parking areas near community centres, libraries, bus stops, park entrances and major intersections.

For e-bikes:

• Riding with a passenger is not allowed unless your device is built for two.

For e-scooters:

• Only single riders are allowed. Do not carry a passenger.

As of July 1, 2025, no e-bikes or e-scooters are allowed on MiWay buses.

It is illegal to ride an e-bike or e-scooter while under the influence of alcohol or drugs in Ontario.

By law:

• All e-bike riders must wear a helmet.
• All e-scooter users under 18 must wear a helmet. Regardless, all riders are encouraged to wear a helmet.

E-bikes can be used on:

• Multi-use trails
• Cycle tracks
• Bike lanes
• Park trails
• Any roads, unless otherwise prohibited

E-scooters can be used on:

• Multi-use trails
• Cycle tracks
• Bike lanes
• Some park trails
• Roads with a posted speed limit of 50 km/h or less

You cannot ride on sidewalks or enter controlled-access highways like the 403 or QEW.

The City updated its Parks By-law, Traffic By-law and Transit By-law to regulate where e-bikes and e-scooters can be operated in Mississauga.
