Apply for a billiard hall licence

You need a licence to run a billiard hall in Mississauga.

A billiard hall provides billiard tables to the public. A billiard table is used to play billiards, pool, snooker, bagatelle or any similar game. It can be coin-operated.

There are two types of billiard hall licences:

  • Class A where the main business is providing billiard tables to the public.
  • Class B where the main business is something else but one or more billiard tables are available to the public, such as a restaurant or pub.

Your licence expires annually, one year from the date it’s issued. A renewal notice will be sent to your email address. If no email is available, it’ll be mailed to you.

Requirements

You must be 18 years of age or older to apply. You also must provide the following documents and approvals:

  • Articles of incorporation or corporate profile report (not required for sole proprietorships)
  • Business name registration or franchise agreement
  • Government-issued identification card, driver’s licence or Canadian passport
  • Zoning Certificate of Occupancy (a minor variance or building permit may be required)
  • Proof of general liability insurance coverage of at least $2 million
  • Letter of authorization signed by the director, owner or business partners assigning an agent or contact to act on behalf of the business. This is required if a director, owner or business partner isn’t available.
  • The number of billiard tables on the premises (this must be updated when you change the number of tables)

Additional documents may be requested.
