Building Canada Strong starts in Mississauga: City outlines advocacy priorities ahead of 2026 Federal budget

Mississauga seeks to build on recent federal progress and funding to deliver results for residents

The City of Mississauga has submitted its 2026 Federal Pre-Budget Submission to the Government of Canada. The recommendations in this submission focus on partnering with the federal government to accelerate housing delivery, advance critical transit investments, protect communities from flooding, modernize the municipal fiscal framework and address the growing food insecurity crisis.

Mississauga is experiencing rapid growth that is placing increasing pressure on housing supply, transit capacity and climate-resilient infrastructure.

The City’s 2026 Federal Pre-Budget Submission acknowledges significant federal progress made over the past year, including the launch of the Build Communities Strong Fund and the March 30, 2026 Canada–Ontario Partnership to Build. The submission identifies key areas where continued federal action and investment will support Mississauga’s growth as a world-class city and a critical engine of Ontario’s and Canada’s prosperity.
