Mississauga’s City Manager Receives Long-Service Award

Janice Baker, City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the City of Mississauga is the recipient of a long-service pin from the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA). Baker is celebrating more than 25 years of working in the municipal sector in Canada.

Baker joined the City in May 1999 as Commissioner of Corporate Services and Treasurer. She became City Manager and CAO in January 2005 after serving as the Acting City Manager since February 2004. She has received a number of awards including:

  • three time Women’s Executive Network’s (WXN) Top 100 Award winner in the Public Sector Leaders category in 2005, 2007, and 2009;
  • inducted into the WXN Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women’s Hall of Fame in 2010;
  • the Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO) in 2011;
  • the Excellence in Municipal Finance Award from the Municipal Finance Officers Association of Ontario (MFOA) in 2011.

Baker brings a broad background in both the private and public sector. She has served as Director of Finance and City Treasurer for the City of St. John’s in Newfoundland, was the Commissioner of Corporate Services and then Commissioner of Public Works for the City of Oshawa.

Baker has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Memorial University and holds a designation as a Chartered Accountant (CA).

Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators

CAMA is a national, non-profit association open to all Chief Administrative Officers/City Managers and any person employed in a senior management position that reports directly to the CAO.
