The City of Mississauga mourns the passing of Ron Lenyk

The City of Mississauga expresses its condolences to the family of Ron Lenyk, who passed away Monday night (September 14) surrounded by his family.

“We are incredibly saddened by the loss of Ron Lenyk. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time, as well as with the thousands of people across this city that Ron touched over his many years of service,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “There are few who can equal his commitment to this city, his passion for his job, or what he has given back to Mississauga over the years. He was a friend and a colleague, and I know I speak on behalf of the City of Mississauga when I say that Ron will truly be missed.”

“We are deeply saddened to learn that one of the City’s long-time community supporters and advocates has passed,” stated Janice Baker, City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer. “Ron was involved in so many initiatives that benefited the community from arts to sports to numerous charities.  He was generous in his time and in his love of all things Mississauga. We offer our condolences to his family.  He will be missed.”

The flags at the Civic Centre and all City facilities have been lowered and will remain at half-mast until after the funeral.

Ron Lenyk is well known for his support in the City of Mississauga and is often referred to as Mississauga’s “king of volunteers”.  Lenyk spent 31 years as publisher of The Mississauga News. Following his position as vice-president of Torstar Corporation, The News’ parent company, he was appointed CEO of the Living Arts Centre in 2011. He was the first chair of the Mayor’s Gala and has raised money and sat on the boards of innumerable local charities and arts groups including Mississauga Community Foundation, Carassauga, Opera Mississauga, the Mississauga Sports Celebrities Dinner and the Mississauga Millennium Committee. He was a founding board member for Credit Valley Hospital.
