Mississauga City Council Endorses Peel’s Community Safety and Well-being Plan

Today, Council members signed a motion, brought forward by Ward 9 Councillor Pat Saito, supporting Peel’s Community Safety and Well-being Plan (CSWB).

“By signing this motion, we’re solidifying our commitment to community safety and well-being for everyone in Mississauga and Peel Region. As a City, one of our top priorities is to ensure that Mississauga continues to be an accessible, safe, inclusive and innovative community,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “We’re working with the Region, our neighbouring municipalities, local authorities and community partners to advance actions that bring about long-term change by addressing issues that are negatively affecting the community. Together, we will achieve equity and the vision of inclusion, safety and connectedness.”

The CSWB plan drives collective action toward creating a community where everyone feels a sense of belonging, is safe, has access to programs, services and supports, and where their basic needs are met.

“The CSWB plan has goals and strategies to address the needs of youth and families in Peel who are affected by family violence, mental health, addictions and systemic discrimination,” said Ward 9 Councillor Pat Saito. “I brought this important motion forward as the Mississauga Council representative on the committee because as leaders, we have a shared responsibility to commit to work together in a coordinated manner to create safe and healthy neighbourhoods for our residents.”

The plan will be implemented over four years and will be reviewed and updated annually.

Background:
As of January 1, 2019, the Province has legislated municipalities to develop and adopt a Community Safety and Well-being Plan. On October 22, 2020, Regional Council adopted Peel’s Community Safety and Well-being Plan (2020-2024). More than 25 organizations representing emergency services, school boards, health and social service providers and governments, came together over the past two years to develop the plan.
