As of Sunday, July 3, the investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshal and Peel Regional Police is ongoing, however the on-site portion of both investigations is complete. The site is now under the control of the Fire Chief under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act.
Although the on-site investigation is complete, the site is not accessible and remains unsafe for residents to enter. Road closures around the site remain in effect (Hickory Drive to the North and West, Rathburn Road to the South and Dixie Road to the East).
The City of Mississauga’s recovery plan is now underway, with the safety of residents as a first priority. Currently, 36 addresses and 32 units located in a nearby building complex are still affected. Building and utility officials are working together to assess the homes remaining in the incident site. Any access to homes will be controlled and done in a systematic approach.
The Community Information Centre for impacted residents will move from the Burnhamthorpe Community Centre to a mobile unit set up on Hickory Drive and will open tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. Access to the Mobile Community Information Centre will be restricted to an access point at Rathburn Road East and Dixie Road.
Support onsite will include:
An additional curbside waste collection date has been scheduled for Monday, July 4. The accessible area of Hickory Drive north of Rathburn Road East will be serviced followed by residents on Hickory Drive south of Rathburn Road East. The area of Hickory Drive still restricted in the incident site will not receive waste collection services at this time.
