The City of Mississauga is hiring Election workers for the 2026 Municipal Election on Monday, October 26, 2026, giving residents a chance to play a direct role in supporting a fair, accessible and trusted voting process. These paid roles help ensure voting locations run smoothly across the city, so every eligible voter can make their voice heard. Working as an Election worker is a meaningful way to support your community while gaining hands-on experience in the democratic process.

Eligibility

To work the Municipal Election, you must:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Have access to a personal email address that is not shared with anyone else

Time commitment

On Election Day, you must start work at 7:30 a.m. Your shift will end at 9 p.m. or later, depending on when your location manager dismisses you.

You must attend training. Some roles may include extra duties, such as moving supplies or equipment. Each job description includes full details.

Training

Depending on the role, Election workers must complete up to three hours of training. Training may take place in-person and online.

Positions available

Deputy Returning Officer

  • Check voter identity
  • Issue ballots to eligible voters
  • Update voter information
  • Help set up and pack up laptops

Operator

  • Feed ballots into the vote tabulator
  • Make sure the tabulator is working properly
  • Pick up and return the tabulator to a set location
  • Help open and close the voting location

Information Officer / Greeter

  • Welcome voters at the entrance
  • Ask voters if they have their voter notification card or ID ready
  • Help open and close the voting location

Supervising Deputy Returning Officer (mandatory location)

  • Facilitate voting in care facilities and assigned locations
  • Verify voters and issue ballots
  • Process voter updates and maintain accurate records
  • Manage setup, supplies, and closing procedures
