Borrow, Grow and Return: It’s Thyme to Join the Seed Library

Spring is around the corner. With it comes the return of Mississauga Library’s ninth annual Seed Library program. Residents are invited to participate in online and in-person workshops and events from March onward throughout the gardening season. The workshops are free with registration and suitable for all ages.

The library is currently accepting seed donations to the Seed Library. The Seed Library provides the public free access to open-pollinated and non-GMO seeds, including tomato, bean and even marigold seeds, among others.

Thanks to seed donations from the community, more than 2,100 seed packages were distributed to residents across the city in 2022. When the growing season is over, harvest your seeds and return a portion of them to the library to help keep the seed library self-sustaining.

Seed orders for spring 2023 will begin on March 11 at 1 p.m. at mississaugalibrary.ca/seeds.

Additionally, small browsing collections will be available at Port Credit Memorial Arena Pop-Up Library and Malton Library on Saturday, March 18.

To learn more about the Seed Library and how to harvest your seeds for donation, contact seed.library@mississauga.ca or visit mississaugalibrary.ca/seeds.
