City Announces New City Solicitor

The City of Mississauga has appointed Andra Maxwell as the new City Solicitor effective today, July 8, 2019. She replaces retired City Solicitor Mary Ellen Bench.

“I am pleased to have Andra Maxwell join our extended leadership team as our new City Solicitor,” said Janice Baker, City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer. “With her leadership, management skills and understanding of municipal government, Andra will be an asset to the City of Mississauga providing legal support and guidance to Council, senior leaders and City staff as they administer municipal services and programs.”

Andra joined the City’s legal team in 2015 and has held the position of Legal Counsel and then Deputy City Solicitor, Litigation. She recently became a Certified In-House Counsel through the Rotman School of Management. Andra obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from McMaster University in 1996 and earned her law degree from the University of Toronto in 1999. Prior to joining the City, Andra spent 16 years with Lerners, LLP where she became a partner in 2010.

Reporting to the City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer, Andra will be responsible for managing and overseeing all business functions of the City’s Legal Services team.
