City Announces New Director of Economic Development

The City of Mississauga has selected Bonnie Brown as the new Director of Economic Development effective February 13th, following a national hiring competition. Brown has been the City’s Manager of Sector Development and Economic Partnerships since 2012 and replaces Susan Amring who retired in 2017.

“Bonnie is committed to delivering excellence in professional services in collaboration with the Mayor and Council, City leadership and staff, and with industry and community partners,” said Janice Baker, City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer.  “I am delighted to have Bonnie leading the City’s economic development efforts.  She brings with her strong people and leadership skills and an experienced understanding and knowledge of local, national and international Economic Development strategies.”

Reporting to the City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer, Brown will be responsible for managing all business functions of the Economic Development Office. This includes overseeing the City’s international marketing strategy, the Mississauga Business Enterprise Centre (MBEC), market research and analysis and business attraction, growth and retention.

Brown joined the City’s Economic Development team in 1999 as a Client Account Manager. She progressed through several leadership positions and became the Manager of Sector Development and Economic Partnerships in 2012. Over the past five years, Brown has been instrumental in promoting the local and international competitiveness of the City’s key economic clusters and has led projects to stimulate economic growth. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Laurentian University, a Certificate in Economic Development from the University of Waterloo and received her Economic Developer Certification from the Economic Development Association of Canada.
