Twelve young Mississauga entrepreneurs received the maximum allowable grant of $3,000 through the 2021 Summer Company Program for their innovative business concepts.

Meet the Class of 2021: Success Stories
The program is offered by the Government of Ontario and administered and delivered through the Mississauga Business Entrepreneur Centre (MBEC) within the City’s Economic Development Office. Successful applicants receive $1,500 towards the start of their business at the onset of the program (May) and another $1,500 at the end (September) if they’ve met all the program requirements.

“Mississauga’s youth demonstrated outstanding potential with their ideas and applications to the 2021 Summer Company Program,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “It is wonderful to see innovation combined with drive and business vision. I encourage young people in Mississauga to consider this valuable program in the future as a learning opportunity that can help them embark on their entrepreneurial dreams. Mississauga is a city that welcomes entrepreneurs and supports businesses of all sizes as they develop and grow.”

The program provides youth aged 15 to 29 years who are interested in starting and operating a new business with free training, mentoring and support provided by the City’s MBEC team to develop and launch a new business during the summer months (approximately May to September).

The MBEC team reviewed the innovative applications which require a business case and financial outline, some of which include:

  • Designing and selling greeting cards with more than 20 designs
  • Selling and installing raised gardens
  • Providing customized piano and music theory lessons
  • Creating a coding and robotics enrichment program to introduce computer science and robotics to children at an early age

“The abundance of talent, creativity and strategic thinking found in Mississauga’s youth was demonstrated in the high quality of submissions we received for the Summer Company program,” said Bonnie Brown, Director, Economic Development Office. “The Summer Company program gives youth the opportunity to focus on their passion and create a foundation from where their business can potentially launch in the future. I am pleased and inspired by the wide variety of business concepts brought forward.”
