City Employees Give a Record $211,000 to United Way of Peel Region

Local government | February 9, 2016

Today at Council, the City of Mississauga presented the United Way of Peel Region with a cheque for $211,980.52, the total raised during the 2015 United Way Employee Campaign. This is the most the City’s annual campaign has ever raised for the United Way.

“Mississauga is a community that cares for its neighbours,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “I am pleased to know that our employees have such compassion for the city they work in. The United Way is a valuable local organization and I know that our employees will continue to give generously to support those in need.”

The 2015 Employee Campaign featured fundraising events, including a new Civic Centre Tower Climb and an internal pledge drive where City staff were encouraged to commit to a recurring donation for one year.

“I could not be more proud of our team spirit and generous support of the United Way of Peel Region,” said Janice Baker, Mississauga City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer. “The United Way supports those in our community who need it most. I encourage everyone to give what they can.”

Janet Hanlon, Business Analyst, received the 2015 Ray Foster Award during the presentation. This internal award, voted on by the United Way Employee Campaign team, recognizes a City of Mississauga United Way canvasser who went above and beyond in demonstrating commitment and dedication to the campaign.

The City of Mississauga has been involved in the United Way of Peel Region’s fundraising campaign for almost three decades and has raised more than $2.8 million to date.
