City Invests over $4.6 Million to Support Community and Culture Groups in Mississauga

On February 15, 2023, Mississauga City Council approved $4.6 million in grant funding to support 88 community and cultural groups in Mississauga.

“Creating a welcoming, inclusive city by fostering pride in Mississauga is an area of focus for us,” said Jodi Robillos, Commissioner, Community Services. “One way we support this is by providing community groups in the arts, culture and community space with the funding they need to develop community programs and projects that support our local talent and neighbourhoods, which in turn helps make Mississauga a vibrant, welcoming city.”

Community Grant Program
The Community Grant program assists Mississauga-based, not-for-profit community groups by providing multi-year, annual operating and project grants to improve the quality of life for residents. The grant program aligns with the strategic priorities of the Culture, Recreation, Parks and Forestry and Environment Divisions.

The grant supports the development of exemplary arts and culture programs and services that improve participation, knowledge, understanding and an appreciation of arts, culture and heritage for residents of Mississauga.

The Cultural Festivals and Celebrations grant program provides funding to offset expenses associated with providing a clean and safe venue for the presentation of arts, heritage and cultural festivals and celebrations to residents and visitors. This grant supports a range of events that reflect the City’s many cultural traditions.

Culture Project Grants
The 2023 Culture Projects Grant Program continues its theme from 2022 (Unifying Arts for Social Justice) with a focus on anti-racism, anti-hate efforts, and community building in Mississauga. This includes projects that emphasize Indigenous worldviews, creative and artistic methods, and presentation practices.

Live Music Grant Pilot Program

For 2023, the Culture Division launched the Live Music Grant Pilot Program, approved by Council as part of the City’s first Music Strategy to support the local music sector. The Live Music Grant Pilot Program is a two-year pilot intended to increase the number and frequency of live music events in Mississauga. The grant will provide $45,000 per year for a maximum of $90,000 in total funding over the two years. This grant stream is the first City Culture Grant open to for-profit businesses with the potential to increase tourism and cultural growth.
