City of Mississauga announces Director of Recreation and Culture

Lisa Boyce-Gonsalves will lead the delivery of recreation and cultural programs, events and activities city-wide, oversee the efficient operations of recreational and cultural facilities, as well as major event venues.

Following a competitive recruitment process, the City of Mississauga is pleased to announce the appointment of Lisa Boyce-Gonsalves as the Director of Recreation and Culture, effective December 1, 2025.

In this role, Boyce-Gonsalves will report to the Commissioner of Community Services and lead the delivery of high-quality recreation and cultural programs, events and activities across the city. Her responsibilities include overseeing the efficient operation of community centres, cultural spaces, arenas, golf courses, theatres, museums and major event venues, such as Mississauga Celebration Square, Paramount Fine Foods Centre and the Living Arts Centre. She will also manage community and neighbourhood development, facility rentals, banquet and food services.

Serving as the Acting Director since January 2025, Boyce-Gonsalves has nearly two decades of progressive leadership experience with the City of Mississauga. Prior to that, she was the Senior Manager of Program Delivery and Manager of Community Programs. In these roles, she built a strong foundation in workforce development, budget management and innovative service delivery.

Playing a pivotal role in the City’s first Healthy City Strategy, Boyce-Gonsalves has championed equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives that increased participation among persons with disabilities and equity-deserving groups in City programs. She also worked to expand physical literacy and wellness programs through partnerships with schools, nonprofits and healthcare providers.

Boyce-Gonsalves holds a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) and an Honours Diploma in Child and Youth Work from Humber College. She also holds a certification in Parks and Recreation Management, as well as Healthy Child Development – High Five and all affiliated certifications.
