City of Mississauga Following Provincial Plan to Safely Reopen

COVID-19 | October 25, 2021

On October 22, the Government of Ontario announced a Plan to Safely Reopen Ontario and Manage COVID-19 for the Long-Term which includes lifting remaining capacity restrictions in places where proof of vaccination is required.

“This is a promising sign that we are heading in the right direction and getting life back to normal,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “I know that businesses have had an incredibly difficult 18 months with repeated closures and changing capacity limits. I am hopeful that this plan will provide much needed relief and a light at the end of the tunnel, as well as allow many of our businesses to get back on their feet.”

City of Mississauga Service Update

Effective today, the City of Mississauga has lifted remaining capacity restrictions, returning to standard facility capacities in our community centres where proof of vaccination is required (including fitness centres, pools and meeting rooms).  For fitness and pool drop-in access, existing reservations will be honoured, but will no longer be required. Those accessing the facility are encouraged to arrive in advance of scheduled activities to allow adequate time to provide proof of vaccination and contact tracing details.

The City of Mississauga is currently considering implementing a proof of vaccination requirement for cultural facilities to increase capacity limits and a decision will be made in the coming weeks.

Capacity limits have now been lifted in areas where residents are providing proof of vaccination to enter like restaurants, gyms, casinos and bingo halls and indoor meeting spaces. The Government of Ontario will also allow other settings like personal care providers, museums and indoor attractions to implement proof of vaccination to increase capacity limits.

Masking indoors, social gathering limits, capacity limits and physical distancing in retail settings and unrestricted access to medical services remain unchanged.
