City of Mississauga Libraries: Potential Strike

Local government | June 30, 2016

The Mississauga Public Library Board’s negotiating committee continues to bargain to reach a deal with the Library Union CUPE 1989.

If an agreement is not reached, Library union employees will be in a legal strike position as of 12:01 a.m. on July 4, 2016.

“The Mississauga Library System values and appreciates its wonderful staff,” said Rose Vespa, Director, Library Services. “We will continue to work hard to reach a deal that is fair to both groups.”

The bargaining committees have met on many occasions over the past year to try to reach a negotiated settlement. The most recent talks occurred on June 29, 2016.

If libraries close, late fees would be waived and the following Library services would remain available:

  • Manage your account online
  • Continue to renew your items online; please hold onto your materials
  • View the online catalogue
  • Check out eBooks & eAudioBooks, eResources, eMagazines and free music

The Library will continue to provide timely updates to its customers online at mississauga.ca/library.
