Business and innovation | June 2, 2016

Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie and representatives from the City’s Economic Development Office (EDO) will be attending the 2016 BIO International Convention taking place June 6 to 9 in San Francisco, California. The City is part of the delegation representing Ontario and will be active participants in the Ontario Pavilion, bringing awareness to the province’s life sciences sector.

“Our city is home to Canada’s second largest life sciences cluster in Canada with more than 400 life sciences companies employing approximately 25,000 people,” said Mayor Bonnie Crombie. “This conference is a great opportunity to strengthen relationships and leverage Mississauga and Ontario’s competitive advantage in the life sciences sector. We will share our city’s success story, along with those from across Canada, as a leading place for businesses to invest, expand service offerings and remain ahead of the competition.”

The Mayor will be attending the Canada and Ontario pavilion opening (Booth #5944), as well as the panel discussion on clinical trials and rare diseases. Mayor Crombie will also provide remarks at the Ontario Networking session, the University of Toronto, Mississauga Alumni event and support local companies who are participating at the conference. Representatives from the Economic Development Office will have the opportunity to meet with industry partners, stakeholders and other levels of government.

“The BIO International Convention is the largest global event for the biotechnology industry,” said Susan Amring, Director of Economic Development. “Our participation provides an opportunity to promote Mississauga and support our life sciences business cluster.”

The BIO International Convention attracts more than 15,000 biotechnology and pharma leaders who come together for one week of intensive networking to discover new opportunities and promising partnerships. The event covers a wide spectrum of life science and application areas including drug discovery, biomanufacturing, genomics, biofuels, nanotechnology and cell therapy.
