City of Mississauga Set to Host 2017 Tour de Mississauga in its 10th Year

Entertainment and activities | June 1, 2017

General Committee supported a recommendation at its May 31 meeting, that will see the City of Mississauga once again host the Tour de Mississauga. The Tour is an annual cycling event that takes place on the third Sunday in September.  It is one of Ontario’s largest cycling events and will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

“We look forward to hosting the Tour de Mississauga and welcoming families, cycling enthusiasts and anyone who wants to come out to have fun. This year, our routes will be a little shorter to encourage even more people to participate,” said Helen Noehammer, Director, Transportation and Infrastructure Planning. “Our Active Transportation team will be working closely with SustainMobility and the Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee (MCAC) to deliver this year’s event.”

The Tour de Mississauga began in 2007. Over the last nine years, the event has continued to grow and in 2016, more than 3,300 cyclists participated.

“I look forward to this annual event every fall. It encourages all residents, regardless of ability, to come out, learn about cycling safety and have fun exploring the many great trails and routes we have in Mississauga,” said Chris Fonseca, Ward 3 City Councillor and Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee (MCAC) member.

The recommendation will be going to City Council for approval at the June 7 Council meeting.  Discussions about the management of the Tour beyond 2017 will take place later this year.
